Historical Background / Description:

The Republic Arch, located at the intersection of Avenue of the Republic and Church Street, Georgetown, was unveiled in 1970, to commemorate Guyana’s Republic status. The oval shaped arch was built of aluminium and overlooks one of the remaining canals of Georgetown which separates the east and west wings of Avenue of the Republic.
