Historical Background / Description:
The Heroes of Moruca Monument is located in Santa Rosa Mission, Moruca, Essequibo. The monument was proposed by Mr. Basil Rodrigues, a retired schoolteacher, to commemorate the accomplishments of Indigenous peoples, who contributed significantly to the community. It was completed by self-help in 1995 and inscribed with the names of Stephen Campbell, Bridget Daniels, Theresa La Rose, George Robinson, Vibert De Souza, John Atkinson, Jaunita La Rose, Michael Gomes, Vincent Prince, Isabella Atkinson and Philomena RSM.
