Historical Background / Description:
Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society is housed in an elegant predominantly wooden building, which is located on the Avenue of the Republic, Lacytown, Georgetown. The society was established in 1891, but prior to its move into the building, the structure served as the residence of Sir Eustace Woolford, a Speaker of the Legislature. Features of the three-storey timber structure include its dormer roofs, numerous jalousie timber windows and shutters.
