Pegasus Hotel is located on a portion of the area previously known as the ‘King’s Ground’, in Kingston Georgetown. The hotel which was originally nine-storeys, was officially opened on November 1, 1969, as Guyana’s first international hotel by then Prime Minister of Guyana, Mr. Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham. The hotel was originally called Guyana Pegasus Hotel or simply Pegasus and the main structure consisted of nine floors, circular in shape with a diameter of 27.4 metres (90 feet) and a height of 36.6 metres (120 feet). The hotel underwent a name change and was later called Le Meridien Pegasus. In 2013, a 10th floor was added after the roof was covered and the hotel later changed its name back to Pegasus Hotel.
