Location: Stabroek, Georgetown
Classification: Governmental
Period/ Year Built: 20th century
Historical Background / Description:
Located at Lot 21 Brickdam, this edifice was most likely constructed during the 20th century, and now houses a few departments of the Ministry of Education. It was once the residence of the De Souza family before it was sold to the Government of Guyana in the 1980s. The structure, even though it has been modified, is a fine example of the traditional timber architecture for which Georgetown is known for. Intricate fretwork along the ridges of windows, mouldings along the outer section of the main façade, Demerara windows, timber shutters and spandrels are among the most noteworthy architectural features of this structure.
